Gilbert Bukenya tours Nakivubo channel

The former Vice President of Uganda, Professor Gilbert Bukenya, who is also the President's Advisor on Environmental Matters, has been given a tour of the ongoing construction works at the Nakivubo Channel.

Bukenya was received by the businessman and son of Uganda, Dr. Hamis Kiggundu, who guided him along the entire length of the channel, from its starting point to its end.

During the tour, Hamis Kiggundu assured Professor Gilbert Bukenya that the construction of the channel has not stalled. He emphasised that the project has employed over 4000 Ugandans, including youth, women, and men, who are performing various tasks to ensure the channel is completed rapidly.

Dr. Kiggundu also expressed his appreciation for other leaders who champion development. He stated that he cannot remain a spectator while the country lags, especially when he possesses the capacity to contribute his part.

Upon concluding the tour, Professor Bukenya thanked the businessman, Hamis Kiggundu, for the commitment and good heart he has demonstrated towards this Nakivubo Channel project. He also called upon other capable sons and daughters of Uganda to offer their support to the development of Uganda as a whole.

Professor Bukenya added that once this channel is completed, it will end the flooding that has been plaguing the people of Kampala whenever it rains. This will be achieved due to the modern engineering standards employed in its construction.

It is important to recall that in the month of August, President Museveni issued a letter confirming his awareness of the activities on the Nakivubo Channel. In the letter, he approved Dr. Hamis Kiggundu to undertake its construction, noting that Uganda needs people like Ham to step forward and develop the nation.
