As the 2026 general elections approach, leaders of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Mukono District are intensifying their efforts to consolidate support across various regions. They are engaging with local communities, starting from the village level, with the aim of reinforcing the party's influence and addressing challenges faced in previous elections. Â
This time, the mobilization efforts were centered at Namataba Town Council, held at Lexus Gardens. The event was well-organized, with attendees including grassroots leaders, local council officials, and NRM supporters. The gathering was graced by prominent leaders, including area Members of Parliament, Nakifuma County representatives, district council members, and the special guest of honor, Hajjat Fatumah Ndisaba Nabittaka, the Presidential Advisor for the region. Â
The NRM District Chairperson for Mukono, Hajji Twahir Ssebagala, addressed the party members, urging leaders at all levels to convene meetings with their supporters to strengthen the party's grassroots structures. Â
During the event, he emphasized the importance of unity among party members and called for an end to internal conflicts, which he said have previously weakened the party. He also encouraged members to remain steadfast and committed to the party's goals. Â
Peace Kusasira Mubiru, the Woman Member of Parliament for Mukono District, acknowledged the challenges the party faced during the 2021 elections, where many NRM candidates lost. She expressed optimism that such grassroots mobilization efforts would help rebuild the party's strength. However, she urged party members to avoid infighting and work together for the common good. Â
Hajjat Fatumah Ndisaba Nabittaka, the Presidential Advisor and guest of honor, delivered a powerful message to the grassroots leaders and supporters. She commended those who wore NRM attire and participated in party activities, stating that such actions positively reflect the party's image. She also warned against actions that tarnish the party's reputation, noting that the police would take action against such individuals. Â
She further urged party members to unite and spread awareness of the NRM government's achievements and development programs across the country. Â
Douglas Namujjali, the Mayor of Namataba Town Council, highlighted the importance of such mobilization efforts in strengthening the party's support base. He also emphasized the need for leaders to explain the government's achievements to the people. Â
Hajji Haruna Ssemakula, a senior NRM member and former district chairperson aspirant, expressed confidence in the party's ability to regain its dominance in Mukono. He noted that the party is focused on reclaiming all positions lost to the opposition and is committed to involving more youth in its activities. Â
He also downplayed internal conflicts within the party, describing them as minor and manageable, and expressed optimism about the party's preparedness for the upcoming elections. Â
Other NRM leaders, including Margaret Nakavubu and Mark Kabunga, expressed their enthusiasm for the mobilization drive. They criticized the opposition for failing to deliver on their promises and emphasized that the NRM remains the best choice for effective service delivery. Â
The event underscored the NRM's determination to strengthen its grassroots structures and reclaim its influence in Mukono ahead of the 2026 elections.
