All traditional royal celebrations are suspended across the counties of Tooro

Tooro Kingdom has suspended all traditional royal celebrations across the counties following the suddenly death of King Oyo Nyimba Rukidi IV las evening.

Prime Minister Rwomiire also known as Omuhikirwa issued this statement.

It is profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the departure of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at approximately 10:00pm on 27th August 2026.

This is an immeasurable loss to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro, and the entire nation of Uganda.

"Omukama Atulize. Enkuba Etutire"

I call upon all subjects of the realm to remain united, calm, and prayerful during this solemn hour.
The continuity of the Crown remains firm and unbroken.

In accordance with the unwritten customs of the Babiito dynasty, His Majesty leaves behind an heir to the throne, whose identity will be formally unveiled by the Royal Clan Council at the designated ritual hour.

Effective immediately, all traditional royal celebrations are suspended across the counties of Tooro. A detailed order of mourning (Okwika) and official funeral proceedings will be communicated.

May the spirit of His Majesty rest with the ancestors, and may God bless the Kingdom of Tooro.

Buganda Kingdom has officially eulogised the Omukama of Tooro who died at the age of 34 fourteen days shy of what would have been his 31st coronation anniversary.

The government of Uganda is yet to issue the statement guiding on the official mourning of the King Oyo.

King Oyo was born on 16th April 1992, began his reign on 26th August 1995 following the death of his father Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Rwamuhokya Olimi III and later coronation on 12th September 1995. His official coronation was held on 17th April 2010 when he turned 18.
