A series of road accidents along the Tirinyi-Mbale Highway on Thursday, May 22, 2025, left several people injured, destroyed vehicles, and raised concerns over road safety in the region. The incidents, occurring in Kibuku and Budaka districts, involved high-profile individuals, including a Member of Parliament, and a hit-and-run case that left a motorcycle passenger in critical condition.  

Hoima, Uganda – The Bunyoro sub-region has emerged as one of Uganda's most dangerous traffic zones, with official statistics revealing 328 fatal accidents recorded last year alone. This alarming trend prompted a high-level road safety meeting at Hoima Resort Hotel, where government officials and transport stakeholders gathered to address the crisis.

Mukono, Uganda – A horrific accident occurred in Wantoni Trading Centre, Mukono Central Division, when a Fuso lorry (UBB 422U) lost control and rammed into multiple vehicles and roadside vendors, killing three people and injuring nine others. The incident happened around 3:30 AM, leaving the area in chaos as emergency responders struggled to assist victims.  

Masaka, Uganda – The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has announced plans to conduct a mass registration exercise for national identity cards in Masaka District, beginning May 26, 2025. The initiative, launched in partnership with local leaders, aims to provide free ID services to residents, particularly targeting those with expired documents and first-time applicants.
