A stolen Toyota Fielder was recovered within a day in Mukono thanks to Uganda's Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS), demonstrating the technology's growing impact on public safety. The integrated tracking system - combining GPS, automatic number plate recognition, and real-time analytics - enabled police to locate the vehicle at precise coordinates after its theft from Buloba was reported. Â
Traffic Police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura emphasized ITMS's dual role in both traffic enforcement and crime prevention, while ITMS communications officer Ayesiga Priscah Pearl warned against disabling trackers, noting that tampering eliminates theft protection without evading penalty detection. The system's success reflects Uganda's broader transport digitization efforts, with plans underway to incorporate CCTV networks and AI analytics. Â
