Despite the government's efforts to provide necessary resources, student turnout in public schools in Lwengo district remains low.

Kigeye Cope Primary School, located in Kyamuyunga village, is one such school. Established in 2017, the school has only a handful of students, with less than 20 pupils attending classes on the first day of the new term.

The school faces several challenges; including feeding the children and accessing clean water. The principal, Kyorahirwe Edith, appealed to parents to send their children to school regularly and provide them with drinking water.

The school has only one toilet, which is inadequate for the students and teachers. The chairman of Lwengo district, Kitatta Ibra, has initiated a campaign to dig public water ponds to address the water shortage issue.
