Two Children Abandoned for a Month Spark Outrage in Lwengo Community

Kinoni Town, Lwengo District – A disturbing case of child neglect has shaken Busubi-Kyamaganda village, where two primary school students – Yowana Batesta (10) and Elvis Mmale (7) – were allegedly abandoned by their father for over a month following their grandmother's funeral on March 3, 2025.

The siblings, pupils at St. Elizabeth Primary School, Kyamaganda, were found living in deplorable conditions without adult supervision after their father, Kato Yowana Batesta, reportedly left them following their maternal grandmother's burial.

- Mother Missing: The children's mother, Fatuma Luyiga, allegedly abandoned the family six years ago after separating from their father. Villagers claim she moved to Kampala and severed all contact.
- Father's Denial: Kato insists he provided for his children, stating they last ate at 9 PM before he left. He accuses relatives of exaggerating the situation.

 Community Outcry
- Aisha Nantongo, the local council chairperson, confirmed: "These children were left like orphans in their own home. The entire village is testifying to their neglect."
- Police Criticism: Residents accuse Officer Kisekka of delayed investigations, while Greater Masaka Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye promises a thorough probe.

 Calls for Action
- Kinoni Town Mayor Kizito Mbaaga urged parents to stop using children as pawns in adult conflicts.
- The children's paternal grandfather (Ssebuufu) and other relatives demand justice and proper care for the siblings.
