Wakiso District has officially unveiled its annual Human Rights Situation Report during a ceremony graced by Buganda Kingdom's Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga. The event marked a significant step in evaluating and addressing human rights issues across the district. Â
During the function, Hon. Dr. Matia Lwanga, the incoming Member of Parliament for Busiro South Constituency, received special recognition from the District Human Rights Committee. The committee honored Dr. Lwanga for his outstanding role in championing human rights advocacy, particularly through his support in establishing and serving as patron of the committee. Â
The report highlights both progress and persistent challenges in the district's human rights landscape. While noting improvements in access to justice and case resolution, it identifies ongoing concerns in areas such as child protection, gender-based violence, and land rights disputes. The document calls for enhanced community awareness programs and strengthened legal aid services to address these issues. Â
Katikkiro Mayiga emphasized the importance of collaboration between cultural institutions and government bodies in promoting and protecting human rights.
