Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has joined the nation in mourning the tragic loss of Cedric Babu Ndilima the celebrated media personality, sports administrator, and Vice Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) who passed away on May 31, 2025 in Nairobi after a battle with heart failure .
In an emotional statement shared on his official social media platforms, Gen. Muhoozi described Babu as a selfless patriot, dynamic leader, and dear friend who dedicated his life to Uganda’s progress.
Cedric was not just a colleague in the Patriotic League of Uganda; he was a brother in arms, a man of unwavering conviction, and a beacon of hope for our nation’s youth. His passion for service, his brilliance in media, and his leadership in sports and politics will forever inspire us,"* the General wrote .
He further emphasized Babu’s role in shaping the PLU’s grassroots mobilization efforts particularly in Kampala, where he worked tirelessly to promote youth empowerment and national unity.
Babu was a key figure in the Muhoozi Project a political movement supporting Gen. Muhoozi’s vision for Uganda’s future. Their close association was evident in Babu’s active participation in events such as the 51st Gen. Muhoozi Birthday Run at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, where he was last seen publicly before his health deteriorated .
Despite their political alliance, Gen. Muhoozi’s tribute transcended partisanship, focusing instead on Babu’s humanity, mentorship, and love for Uganda
Even in his final days, Cedric fought with courage and faith. We had hoped for a miracle, but God had other plans. Uganda has lost a rare gem, the General added .
The news of Babu’s death has triggered an outpouring of grief from all corners of Ugandan society. From media colleagues at UBC where he hosted *The Cedric Live Show*, to sports federations he once led, tributes have highlighted his versatility, charisma, and dedication.
However, his passing has also reignited debates about Uganda’s healthcare system, as his family’s desperate Shs1.5 billion fundraising campaign for a heart transplant fell short, raising questions about medical access even for the well-connected .
Babu’s life was a tapestry of achievements—Tennis champion, media mogul, political strategist, and youth advocate. His death leaves a void in Uganda’s leadership landscape, but his ideals live on in the PLU’s mission and the countless lives he touched .
As preparations for his send-off begin, Gen. Muhoozi and other national leaders are expected to pay their respects. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time but promises to honor Babu’s legacy with a dignified farewell.
Rest in Power, Cedric Babu Ndilima (1979–2025)
