Ten people were killed and three others injured in a devastating road crash early this morning in Busowa Town Council, Bugiri District.
The collision occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. along the Busia Highway and involved a Toyota Hiace minibus, registration number UBN 817H, and a stationary trailer with plates UA 647BA / UA 430AA.
Preliminary findings indicate the driver of the Toyota Hiace attempted to overtake another vehicle but encountered oncoming traffic. In an effort to avoid a head-on collision, the driver swerved, lost control, and crashed into the trailer parked on the roadside.
Ten occupants of the Toyota Hiace, including the driver, died at the scene. Three others sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for emergency care. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the hospital mortuary.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the crash.
The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety urges all motorists to exercise extreme caution, refrain from reckless overtaking, avoid speeding, and prioritise road safety to prevent such tragic incidents.
