Ex-IGP John Cossy Odomel Dies at 75

John Cossy Odomel served as Uganda's Inspector General of Police (IGP) from 1992 to 1998, a tenure marked by a focus on professionalism within the force.

This period is often regarded as one of the most professional eras in the history of the Uganda Police Force.

In 2006, Odomel transitioned into politics, contesting for the parliamentary seat of Pallisa County. Despite his efforts, he was unsuccessful, and the election results were later challenged in court.

In a 2018 interview, Odomel reflected on the tenure of then-IGP Kale Kayihura, acknowledging both his contributions and mistakes.

He highlighted Kayihura's efforts in expanding the police force and improving logistics, suggesting that these positive aspects should not be overlooked.
