KAMPALA, UGANDA – Police in Lubowa have announced a major breakthrough in their battle against a wave of motorcycle robberies, with the arrest of five suspects believed to be the masterminds behind a spree that has plagued the Lubowa and Ndejje areas for nearly a year.
According to a statement released by the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, SP Kawala Racheal, the arrests follow an intelligenceled operation conducted on March 5, 2026. The operation culminated in the capture of the ring’s key suspect in Kyengera Town Council.
Following his apprehension, the prime suspect cooperated with investigators, leading them to his alleged accomplices. This chain of events resulted in the total arrest of five individuals connected to the crimes.
Police have also recovered one motorcycle, registration number UMA 663HM, which is being held as evidence.
Preliminary investigations paint a picture of a sophisticated operation. Authorities estimate that approximately 40 motorcycles have been stolen since June 2025 within the affected areas. The suspects are reportedly not merely stealing the bikes for use, but are running a dismantling operation, stripping the motorcycles to sell their parts.
So far, police have identified 14 victims who have been affected by the robbery ring.
SP Kawala confirmed that investigations are still ongoing and that efforts are underway to track down other individuals believed to be facilitating or promoting these criminal activities. The police have assured the public of their commitment to bringing all those involved to justice.
