KAMPALA, UGANDA – Police in the Kampala Metropolitan South (KMP South) have registered significant success in operations targeting cattle theft and aggravated robbery, resulting in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of stolen property.

In a statement issued on Monday, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, detailed two separate incidents that led to the breakthroughs.

Stolen Heifer Recovered in Kasanje

The first operation was a joint effort involving the Police, the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), and local community members in Kasanje Town Council. The operation, conducted on March 7, 2026, was a direct response to rising complaints of cattle theft in the area.

While patrolling crimeprone zones, including the Bimbi Swamp, the security team successfully recovered one whitespotted heifer belonging to Mr. Sserwagi Augustine. Following the recovery, police arrested the suspect, identified as Zimbwe Ramathan, a resident of Kyengera. He is currently being held at Kasanje Police Station and has been formally charged with cattle theft.

Swift Police Response Nabs CeilingHiding Robbers

In a separate incident in Katabi Town Council, police demonstrated swift action that led to the capture of three suspected robbers.

According to the report, on March 9, 2026, at around 3:30 AM, three suspects armed with pangas (machetes) broke into the home of 63yearold Patrick Kagenda Amooti in Kabaale B Ward. The intruders robbed Mr. Amooti and his father, Prof. Charles Kagenda Atwooki, of a total of Shs 570,000 in cash and a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.

Upon receiving the alert, police officers rushed to the scene and surrounded the house. A search of the premises revealed the three suspects attempting to evade capture by hiding in the ceiling. They were immediately arrested.

The suspects have been identified as Sekitoleko Acram, Oluka Robert, and Mbazira Bashir. During the arrest, police were able to recover the stolen Samsung Galaxy Note 10, as well as Shs 240,000 of the stolen cash.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations into both incidents are still ongoing. ASP Owoyesigyire took the opportunity to commend the local community for their cooperation and timely information, which he stated greatly contributed to the successful arrests and recoveries.
