KYANKWANZI, UGANDA – Police in Kyankwanzi have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly attacked and robbed a businesswoman he had been brokering for, leaving her severely injured.
The suspect has been identified as Maganda Isaac, a resident of Lubiri in Kyankwanzi Subcounty. According to a statement from SSP L. Kigozi, the Public Relations Officer for the Wamala Region, Maganda had been acting as a broker for the victim, helping her secure forest trees for charcoal burning in Ranch Number 5, located in the same subcounty.
The victim, who has not yet been formally identified by police, had paid for the trees and deployed her workers to begin burning charcoal at the site.
Tragedy struck around midnight on March 14, 2026. The businesswoman traveled to the location to pay her workers. She had informed Maganda of her impending arrival. When she arrived, Maganda received her and offered to escort her through the forest. It was at this point that the suspect turned on her.
According to the police report, Maganda cut the victim severely with a weapon before robbing her of an unspecified sum of money and fleeing the scene.
A Good Samaritan discovered the injured woman and rushed her to Hoima Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Police reports indicate that Maganda Isaac has a known criminal record. He is currently out on bail in connection with a separate case involving the theft of goats.
A case has been registered at Bukwiri Police Station as investigations continue.
Police have appealed to members of the public in Kyankwanzi Subcounty and the surrounding areas who have clear information on the whereabouts of Maganda Isaac to immediately inform the authorities upon sighting him.
