Butcheries in Kasese municipality have since been closed for a whole day following a seat down strike of the butcher men who decided not slaughter animals for the alleged increment of taxes on the animals slaughtered at the Kasese municipality abattoir.
It is evident that by press time all the butchers were closed and whoever wanted meat would surely be welcomed by shut doors.
Speaking to the chairman of the Kasese municipality abattoir, Mr Siraji Kahonda narrated that they decided not to slaughter and open up butcheries because it’s been too long since they talked with the municipality stakeholders about the increment of animal taxes and yet very little is done by the municipality to improve the abattoir.
He added that the other reason is about the tender which they were denied by the municipality to carry on all the duties of the abattoir by themselves as butcher men since they well know all the challenges they undergo, however the municipality has been playing tricks up to today when they decided to put down their tools to show dissatisfaction of their acts.
Siraji stressed that amidst all the taxes slapped on to them by the municipality, they are not given all the services as they are paid for. He vowed that unless the municipality seats and comes with a satisfactory decision for both sides, the strike will go for even a month.
Even the business people in town did not survive especially the restaurant operators who woke unaware of the meat scarcity in town only to be told by the meant suppliers that there is no meat at the butchers. This they thought was going to take a few minutes until midmorning that they started looking for alternative sauce for the food.
Fatuma is still stranded up to now wondering what she will feed her customers who already made orders of meat.
There is a likelihood that transport loses are going to be incurred tomorrow as she may decide to shop meat in a distant place just to keep his customers.
Salt tv tried to meet the mayor to give an explanation on why his town did not have meat the whole day but he denied having any clue about the matter and instead sent us to the town clerk who also directed us to the central division where we got our biggest shock when the person meant to attend to us claimed to be tired.
