Farmers Reject Operation Wealth Creation Maize Seeds

Farmers in the sub-counties of Bumayoka and Bulucheke in Bududa district have rejected maize seeds distributed under the Operation Wealth Creation program.

The farmers argue that they are being given the seeds at a time when planting time is finished. Bulucheke and Bumayoka sub-counties received 350kg of maize seeds each of FH5160 variety.

Peter Bwaya a farmer from Bulucheke expressed dissatisfaction on how the seeds supplied to farmers were distributed late and yet the OWC officials are aware of the planting season.

Annet Nerima, from Bumayoka rejected the maize and instead asked the officials to give her onion seeds.
Moses Siisa, the LCIII Bumayoka sub-county asked the government to give farmers seeds at the right planting time so that they can have time to harvest. He also decried receiving less seeds as a sub-county as compared to the population.
