Teams of 35 athletes to set take off to represent Uganda in world university games 2019 competitions that take place every two years. This year’s games will be held in the Italian city of Napoli from 3rd to 14 July.
Prof Barnabas Nawangwe the Makerere vice chancellor handed the Uganda flag to the team at AUUS in Mengo. In addition, he urged them not let down Uganda.
Uganda will be participating in athletics, tennis and swimming; the players on the team came from various universities such as Kyambogo, Makerere, Ndejje and Bugema University. One of the pillars on the team is Dorcus Ojok 24, an athlete that has represented Uganda in various competitions including common wealthy games 2018, all Africa senior games and world cup cross country championship 2019 in Denmark. More to that Ajok won a gold medal in world university games 2015.
Nalukwago Judith, a dental surgery student at Makerere University is the team captain. Ranking number one in Africa, Uganda is a renowned performer in the world university games.
After winning 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal, Uganda was the 35th out of the 63 nations that participated in the world university games 2017
