Uganda boxing federation has called off the national boxing team training ‘bombers’ due to limited finances, which was preparing ahead of the all-African-games set to happen in August in Morocco. However, the national council of sports has opposed the move.
‘The budget for this quarter of April, may, June was cut because the government did not have enough money. Therefore as the national council sports, we were forced to reduce the money given to all the sports federations; the boxing federation that has been receiving Shs125m per quarter got Shs55m, the same applies to netball, volleyball, and basketball and all other federations. The federations have always been advised not solely rely on the government for funding but to look for sponsors who can finance their programs. The government may help you to start the journey but to you will need other sponsors along the way to accomplish your goals”, Dhakaba Kigongo the national council of sports spokesperson narrated.
