A team of 22 athletes will represent Uganda 2019 IAAF world athletics championship, this the biggest number ever in Uganda’s history.
The 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships the seventeenth edition of the IAAF World Athletics Championships, are scheduled to be held between 27 September and 6 October 2019 in Doha, Qatar at the renovated multi-purpose Khalifa International Stadium.
Dominic Otuchet the head of Uganda athletic federation reassured that all the selected team members have been urged to return home with medals.
Some of the team members include; Stephen Kiprotich, 30, is a gold medallist in 2012 Olympics, although he acquired enough points to qualify for the 2019 IAAF world championship, the athlete has not made an appearance in any major completion for a long time. More to that he will be participating in the marathon category. Joshua Cheptegei, 23 a silver medallist in 10,000 metres in the 2017 IAAF world athletes. In addition, Cheptegei won 2 gold medals in the 2018 commonwealth, 2 gold medals in the world marathon competition, and many others including the recent 5000-meter diamond league, he will be participating in the 10,000 meters.
Stella Chesanga,22 a 2018 commonwealth gold medallist, will be participating in the 10,000 meters. Namyondo Winnie will take part in 800 and 1000 meters, Halima Nakayi 800 meters, Muntai Solomon will participate in the marathon, Kiplimo Jacob 10000 meters etc. the team will be shifting next week, part of the team is in Uganda whereas others are abroad.
