Buikwe The number is still very low, Minister Mutasingwa blames the school inspectors who said they have not done enough
It is almost a week since the first semester of 2024 across the country, However, the number of students in the Buikwe district especially in public schools is still disappointing with some classes dry but school authorities blame this on negligent parents.
Some of the districts we visited include Najja, Ssi, Ngogwe, and Nkokonjeru town councils, and at Nkokonjeru Umea School in the center of the town, we found only four students and the principal waiting for his teachers. And the principal Ssebaduka Gibril told us that this is the tradition of the parents and the children will come in the third week.
Other schools included Sangazira PS, and St. Mary's. Peters C/U, Kikanya, and many others, children we found few with most of the classes dry and teachers confused by the lack of enthusiasm of parents to bring back students as fast in cutting potatoes, picking buckwheat, and fishing.
Tirya Benon, head of St. Louis. Peters C/U at Senyi Beach told us that parents at the school do not like a teacher who touches their child in a punitive manner, children once touched run to the police, and two teachers are on police bond for charges filed against them by students last year they lose interest in students.
Christopher Seruyange, the head of the Buikwe Education Monitoring Commission, expressed concern that the bed given to children would further disrupt education in Buikwe.
The Buikwe district MP Hon. Diana Mustasingwa, blamed the situation on the district school inspectors not doing enough to visit public schools and fight against those who ask parents for money.
