The UPDF Mountain Division Commander Maj Gen Dick Olum has re-assured all Ugandans and wanainchi, especially of the Rwenzori region of UPDF's commitment to ensuring, peace, stability, and safety to the people of the region.
While officiating as a chief Guest at the celebration to mark the 43rd anniversary of Tarehe Sita at Buhinga stadium in Fort Portal City Kabarole district, Gen Olum said the UPDF and Mountain Division in particular is working tirelessly to ensure that the peace, safety, and the freedoms of the citizens are safeguarded.
Gen Olum said that peace and stability are a guarantee which he attributed to the strong foundation the current leadership has laid for the future. "We keep a bit worried about what will happen after we are long gone, but we believe we are still in a position to lay a foundation that will not be shaken. We thank the Government for standing strong to safeguard the people of Uganda" he said.
The Deputy RCC Fortportal city Mr Emanuel Busingye thanked the UPDF mountain Division for the various activities undertaken with the wanainchi during the army week. He urged Ugandans to safeguard the achievements attained since 1986.
The anniversary celebrations began with activities within Fortportal City a week ago where the UPDF Mountain Division medical team organized a medical camp at Kagote HC111 where civilians received free medical care.
The same was concluded today with a March of troops, local government leaders, and Wanainchi around Fortportal City.
The celebrations which commemorate the beginning of the 1981- 86 liberation National Resistance Army (NRA) struggle were also attended by the chairman of Kabarole district Mr Richard Rwabuhinga, the RDC Kabarole Mr Festus Bindenba, the city council speaker Mr Albert, the central Division Mayor fortportal city Mr Richard Muhumuza and other local government leaders from Rwenzori region.
