Storm Wreaks Havoc in Three Villages of Malongo Sub-County, Lwengo District Â
LWENGO – A devastating storm has left a trail of destruction across three villages in Malongo Sub-County, Lwengo District, displacing families and destroying homes and crops. The affected villages of Lwemiyaga, Lwentale, and Kiganda now face dire humanitarian conditions as residents struggle to recover from the disaster. Â

Moses Kitamanyirwe, Chairperson of Lwemiyaga Village, described the storm's fury: "The winds came with such force that roofs were torn off homes and gardens flattened in minutes." Among the hardest hit are elderly residents and single mothers, now left without shelter or food supplies. Â

Survivors recounted harrowing experiences, including children who narrowly escaped injury while their grandparents remained hospitalised in Kampala. Nicholas Abimanya, a young resident, shared: "We survived the storm, but now hunger threatens us more—all our crops are gone." The destruction extends to fruit trees and cash crops like coffee, wiping out livelihoods. Â

Lwemiyaga Zone Councillor Enock Katoroogo painted a grim picture: "This was no ordinary storm—it selectively destroyed everything in its path." He urgently appealed for government intervention through the Office of the Prime Minister's disaster response unit. Â
Lwengo District Chairman Ibrahim Kitatta Malik visited the affected areas, promising swift action: "We're dispatching our disaster assessor today and will coordinate relief through relevant ministries." He emphasised long-term solutions, advising communities to plant windbreak trees to mitigate future climate disasters. Â
