Serious Road Accident Injures Four Police Recruits in Luwero

UPDATED

LUWERO DISTRICT – August 1, 2025 – Four police recruits are recovering in Luwero Hospital Kasana today after a serious rear-end collision on the Luwero-Kikyusa murram road in the early hours of this morning. The incident, which occurred around 4:00 AM in Kabanga village, Kikyusa Town Council, involved a parked sugarcane lorry and a taxi transporting the recruits.

According to a press statement from ASP Sam Twiineamazima, regional spokesperson Savanah region (Luwero Nakaseke and Nakasongola) , a white TATA lorry (registration number UBS 925E), fully loaded with sugarcane, was stationary on the road when it was struck from behind by a white Toyota Hiace taxi (registration number UBL 426H). The taxi was en route from the Busoga region, carrying police recruits to the Kabalye training school in Masindi district.

Investigations by traffic police in Luwero indicate that poor visibility, specifically due to a dusty road, contributed to the taxi ramming into the rear of the parked lorry.

The four individuals identified as victims, all from the taxi, were: Okello Kevin, 22 years, from Kakira, Jinja, Moru Shaban, 24 years, from Jinja, Kirunda Joseph Eric, 20 years, from Bugweri district and Muzito Emmanuel, 34 years, a conductor residing at Mbiko Trading Center

All four were promptly transported to Luwero Hospital Kasana for medical treatment.

Both drivers of the involved vehicles fled the scene immediately following the accident. Police have visited and meticulously documented the accident site, including taking photographs and preparing a sketch plan, as part of their ongoing inquiries.

In light of the incident, ASP Sam Twiineamazima reiterated the police's call for heightened road safety awareness. "We urge all motorists to exercise caution, particularly under poor visibility conditions, and to avoid parking on or near roadways," the statement emphasized.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and the whereabouts of the fleeing drivers. Further updates are expected as the investigation proceeds.
