RWF and U.S. Partner Launch Initiative to Support Teen Mothers in Uganda

The Rescue Women Foundation, in a strategic partnership with the Africa Raising Initiative, has launched a collaborative effort to address the plight of girls who become mothers before the age of 18 in Uganda.

Mariam Kiwumuro, the Director of the Rescue Women Foundation based in Namusera, Wakiso District, revealed that the organisation is currently caring for over 100 teenage mothers. She emphasised that this mission of raising the nation's children joyfully is one she has dedicated many years to. While at the foundation's offices in Namusera, Kiwumuro introduced a benefactor from the United States who has come to support their work in caring for these vulnerable girls.

In a significant outreach effort, Kiwumuro announced that tomorrow, Tuesday, she will lead the American guest to the Katwe Kinyoro slum community. The team will distribute essential household items to various beneficiaries, including shoes, blankets, food, clothing, sanitary pads, and many other goods. She also made a passionate appeal to the Ugandan government and wealthy individuals within the country to support her organisation's noble cause.

The visiting guest, Ted Anderson from the United States, stated that his purpose is to educate Ugandans on modern mushroom farming techniques. He highlighted that mushroom cultivation is a highly lucrative venture that could enable Ugandans to overcome poverty and achieve self-sufficiency.

Anderson expressed his specific choice to focus on Uganda among all African nations, praising Ugandans for their exceptional kindness, welcoming nature, and hospitality towards foreigners. As the head of the Africa Rising Initiative, he has decided to establish a permanent foundation for the country's development.

Furthermore, Anderson urged parents in Uganda to take their responsibility of caring for their children seriously and not to neglect them when faced with difficulties. He stressed that experiencing pregnancy at a young age does not mean the girl's life is over.

Both Mariam Kiwumuro and Ted Anderson shared their vision: to see the children of Uganda secure a better future. They firmly believe that these children are the ones who will propel the country forward in the years to come. For the teenage mothers in their care, the goal is to empower them with skills, provide counselling, and ultimately return them to school after they have raised their children, ensuring they are equipped to build their own futures.
