Early Morning Inferno Ravages Businesses in Kisenyi, Kampala

A devastating fire tore through the bustling commercial hub of Kakajjo Zone in Kisenyi this morning, reducing multiple businesses to ashes and leaving a trail of destruction.

The blaze, which erupted at approximately 6:30 a.m., caught many residents unaware as they were still asleep.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with authorities and eyewitnesses providing conflicting accounts. One narrative, given by long-time worker Mayanja Geoffrey, points to a domestic dispute.

"I have been working from this place for three years," Geoffrey stated. "The fire started from the neighbours who had some disagreement in their relationship. It is said a man found his wife with another man and decided to burn the house."

However, other residents speculate that the fire may have been an accident, potentially originating from the area's overloaded electrical system. "There are a lot of machines using electricity here," one local noted, hinting that faulty wiring could be to blame.

The most severely affected are believed to be hawkers and vendors who lived in the rooms above the businesses. It is reported that each of the destroyed houses accommodated up to 12 people, highlighting the significant loss of homes and livelihoods.

Upon receiving the alarm, the Fire Brigade from the Uganda Police Force rushed to the scene to combat the flames. Their efforts were hampered by the intensity of the fire, which had already taken a strong hold on the structures made of wood and other light materials.

While the material damage is extensive, preliminary reports indicate a silver lining: no fatalities have been discovered so far. A thorough investigation has been launched by the authorities to definitively ascertain the origin of the fire.

The incident has left a community in shock, facing the immense task of rebuilding their businesses and lives from the ground up.
