Mityana District – Residents of Kyamusisi Parish, Kalangaalo Sub-county in Mityana District have appealed to government to rehabilitate the historic road famously known as the "HIGHWAY" which President Yoweri Museveni used during the bush war that brought the current National Resistance Movement (NRM) government. They also want the cave at Mukonga where the President hid to be preserved as a national heritage site.
The demands were made during a thanks giving prayer service held at Kyamusisi Gospel Messenger's Church, which gathered believers from Kyankwanzi, Kiboga, Kassanda and Mubendde. The event was presided over by the State Minister for Lands, Hon. Dr. Sam Mayanja.
The prayer gathering was held under the national motto: "For God and My Country," with believers affirming that Uganda is a God-fearing nation. They thanked God for using President Museveni to lead the country, enabling them to worship freely without harassment.
The LC1 Chairperson of Kyamusisi, Mr. Makumbi Charles, who also addressed the gathering, raised concerns about the small drug store (dispensary) in the area, which residents want upgraded to a Health Centre IV status due to the growing population.
He also reminded government of the poor state of the "HIGHWAY" road, which remains in a dilapidated condition yet holds great historical significance as the route President Museveni used during the liberation war, including the cave at Mukonga where he hid.
The lead pastor of the church, Pastor Joseph Sasasula, highlighted the importance of the gathering and called upon Christians to pray for their leaders. He was joined by Pastor Samuel Mukisa who encouraged the congregation to love one another and to work hard while waiting upon God’s provision.

Hon. Dr. Sam Mayanja, the guest of honour, preached from John 5:1, urging believers to always use their time of worship to do good. He reassured the congregation and residents that President Museveni has not forgotten this area, given its historical significance—the road where he fought and the cave where he hid will be turned into a national monument in recognition that it was from that very place that President Museveni launched the struggle that overthrew Idi Amin's government.
Shortly after the minister left the church, pastors and residents waylaid him at Mukonga village, where the community is living in darkness (without electricity) and the church itself is facing eviction from its land
Led by the Deputy LC1 Chairperson, Mr. Suuna Yisaaya, the residents explained the difficulties they are going through. Pastor Joseph Sasasula explained that the land dispute involves three overlapping claimants, each contesting ownership of the same piece of land.
In response, Minister Mayanja invoked Section 237(8) of the Uganda Constitution, which guarantees every person the right to own property and protects bonafide occupants from eviction. He also cited Section 36 of the Land Act, clarifying that whether one inherited or bought a plot, if the land already has a lawful occupant, that occupant should not be disturbed.
He advised the aggrieved parties to write to the Mityana Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Ms. Prossy Mwanjuzi, to ensure that people are protected on their land.
The Minister further warned residents to protect their land rights lawfully, without breaking the law. He stressed that anyone found evicting others from their land without a letter of authorisation from the RDC should be arrested and prosecuted.
