Uganda Human Rights Chairperson Commission Facing Death Threats

The chairperson of human rights commission Mariam Wangadya has confessed to be working in fear which she has attributed for the commission poor performance in addressing the increased cases of torture.

Wangadya says she has been bullied by a cross section she described  as non state actor.
She  was appearing before the parliamentary  committee of  human rights committee chaired by west Budaama Mp Fox Odoi  where she was presenting a report on torture. The report had indicated over 1200 cases where 600 had been tortured,378 had been deprived of liberty where 65 had disappeared.
Meanwhile the  Mukono woman MP  Hanifa Nabukeera  has also opposed the report because the commission has not engaged state agencies like police, she has also questioned about torture  wheather  the commission  has visited any of the state house which she declined to repsnd to.
Other committee members who included Terego woman Mp Rose Obiga advised the chairperson to resign if she finds hers self un able to deliver for the commission. She has also challenged the commission budget with the output.
But Kagoma county Mp Walyomu Muwanika also supported the committee decision of not adopting this report saying it has not been authentic in addressing the plight of victims.
The torture report was referred to this committee after ut was presented by honourable Muluuli Mukasa regarding torture.
