Rice farmers in Butaleja have vowed to fight to death with any person who will come to evict them from their the wetlands which. They use as rice farms.
The farmers said all this during the meeting with Lyada Moses a former Member of Parliament contestant in the recent finalized general elections who met them in their rice farms. However, the meeting was short-lived as the police intercepted them and arrested the politician without giving any reason.
Following the arrest of Lyada Moses, the residents attacked the police station, only to be dispersed by the police, which was already equipped with sticks.
Ssewagada Paul the local leader, on behalf of the residents emphasized the fact that they are not ready to give up their land, because the wetlands, which are used for, rice farming belong to them but not to the government as it is alleged.
They also expressed concern over the detainment of their leader, who was arrested in the bid to defend their rice farms.
