POA supporters, NRM supporters clash in Bunyangabu district

Police fired Tear gas and live bullets to disperse supporters and the FDC presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat Oboi in Bunyagabu district.

The bare footed presidential candidate today started his bid for the highest office in the land in the Rwenzori region ahead of the 2021 general elections.

Amuriat addressed his supporters at Busita playground in Bunyagabu district.

But disagreement ensued on his way heading to the venue when his convey met NRM joint rally at Rubuna trading center in Rubona town council.

POA and his FDC supporters made a stopover at the trading center and this prompted the NRM supporters accusing them of disorganizing their joint rally. The exchanging words end up in a serious fight.

The State Minister of Culture, Peace Mutuzo who is a canvassing support to claim back her parliamentary seat, organized the joint rally. She was campaigning together with the Parliamentary candidates, Alvis Kamukama and the district chairperson, James Mugarura Ategeka.

Police that were guarding the rally then immediately fired tear gas to allegedly dispersing FDC convey and the supporters who have started to gather around.

Amuriat addressed his supporters but police accused him of breaching corona virus restrictions on gathering of more than 200 people.

It is not yet confirmed whether there was any fatality.

Political tensions in Uganda have been increasing ahead of the presidential elections in 2021 after each candidate is accusing each other of not adhering to the Ministry of Health and Electoral Commission guidelines to fight the virus that has placed the whole world upside down.
