The national Unity Platform (NUP) in the Rwenzori region lost diehard members that crossed to the ruling National Resistance Movement party a few hours to the close of members of parliament nominations after being denied the flag for the Member of Parliament in their respective areas.
Kahindo Nono Amina was welcomed at the Mayors' garden in Kasese town and Bagonza Geoffrey was welcomed at the NRM head offices in Bundibugyo town where they expressed their dissatisfaction and handed over the party cards and red ribbon and later wore the yellow beret.
Their decision comes at a time when a flag that they had earlier been handed to them was later given to other people.
While speaking to salt TV during the defection, Kahindo Nono Amina stressed that it's through her empirical political research and past independence history of Uganda, which was characterized by rebellions, something she does not wish to happen again.
It is at this point that Amina described the National Unity Platform ideologies self-centered and that they do not support pan-Africanism.
The Kasese Municipality Mayor Kabbyanga Godfrey Kime welcomed Amina to the National Resistance Movement,
Speaking to the current flag bearer who now a candidate for the Kasese Municipality Member of Parliament on the ticket of NUP, Baluku Sam, thanked the National Unity Platform executive committee for having entrusted him with the party flag citing that he is the potential candidate and that the flag had earlier been handed to the wrong person.
Bagonza Geoffrey who also defected to national resistance movement at the last day of nominations in Bundibugyo district said he was full nominated as flag bearer for the national unity platform but because too much disagreements, adding that currently is not in position to carry the NUP flag and to continue with the strangle that’s why he decided to join the ruling government.
The district NRM youth chairperson Bundibugyo district welcomed Bagonza Geoffrey to National resistance member and he tusked him to continue teaching other youth the joy and happiness of the NRM.
