NDA Impounds over 100  Boxes of Unregistered Drugs

National Drug Authority (NDA) has impounded 112 boxes of unregistered drugs from the drug shops and pharmacies in the districts of Bugisu and sebei region.

 

Zaidi Mwodha, Manager, NDA Eastern Region says that this follows an operation with security.

Four people have been arrested in Mbale and more are still on run after being found with illegitimate drugs, operation drug shops without licensees and others having forged licenses.

 

Zaid said that 213 drug outlets consisting of 5 Pharmacies, 185 Drug shops and 8 Clinics. 

 

During the operation 78 drug outlets were closed, impounded 112 boxes of assorted medicine estimated at Ushs. 39,200,000.

The impounded drugs included unregistered medicines like Viagra and Postinor not meant for Uganda's market but Kenya, Malawi and Zambia.
