Fire Guts 150 Boys Dormitory

The fire has gutted a boys’ dormitory at Juma Alhamil Education Centre in Buwenge town council, Jinja district.

The fire said to have destroyed the dormitory block housing over 150 boys of Primary five and six.  Several suitcases, books and mattresses are also destroyed.

The police fire brigade delayed to put out the fire due to lack of an access route. They spent three hours pleading with the neighbours of the school to provide an access route.

The residents later agreed to demolish some of their houses to allow fire brigade access the school.

Saleh Mugulusi, the dormitory warden, says that the torched parts of the school lack hydroelectric power connection and was relying on solar.  Mugulusi further says that they suspect a case of arson by unknown people.

Abdullah Mohammed, the school headteacher says that the fire broke out when the pupils were in class.
