BOU Governor Mutebile Roasted Over Cooperative Bank Closure

Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutibile who has been the Governor of the Central Bank of Uganda since January 2001 was tasked to account for the cooperative bank closure.

As the central bank sagas continue to deepen, the bank of Uganda governor Emmanuel Mutebile appeared before the COSACE and was tasked to account for the closure of the cooperative bank.

Professor Mutebile asked for two weeks’ time to respond to claims from Chris Tushabe who was the majority shareholder in the defunct Cooperative bank that he was swindled by central bank officials.

The committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises, under Chairman Mubarak Munyagwa the Kawempe South legislator opened up fresh investigations into the matter.

Before the session started, the governor was requested to make an oath, though he first opposed the idea, Mutebile later obeyed the committee’s orders.

Prior to the governor’s oath, Chris Katushabe who had the majority shares in the cooperative bank recounted t how greatly he has been oppressed by the bank of Uganda while seeking for justice.

He went further to point out and accuse specific BOU staff members that conspired to rob his property.

In the same context, the committee petitioned the governor to clarify on the issue.

In response, the governor appealed to the COSACE for more time to analyse the matters before he make the clarification.

The committee accepted that BOU governor’s plea and summoned him to reappear before the committee on the 12-September-2019 for more probing.
