Over two thousand applications of farmers have been cancelled in Kasese.
Over two thousand applications of farmers who had applied to benefit on phase two of Mubuku irrigation scheme have been cancelled by the ministry of agriculture due to a lot of irregularities cited in the process.
State Minister for Agriculture Christopher Kibanzanga says the ministry halted the process because it had been infiltrated with local politics and chaos adding the process will resume after clear criteria on who should apply and how to apply has been set.
The RDC Kasese asked Kasese leaders to avoid frustrating a community project of Mubuku irrigation scheme with local politics for selfish gains.
However, the ministry of water has already paid compensation to Kasangama Ndahura the cultural leader of Basongora who owns the land where the Mubuku phase two project is going to be implemented
The establishment of Mubuku irrigation scheme Phase II had brought cheers on the faces of thousands of farmers in Kasese as hundreds of pieces of land in the twin schemes would boost agriculture in the District.
