The market for the avocado fruit has gained market and farmers have started to upgrade to commercial farming.
This has come about because of the government’s campaign to encourage farmers to upgrade from subsistence to commercial farming.
However, the farmers’ influx into the market has affected the quality of the product; the overwhelming demand is leading farmers into harvesting unready fruits, which causes losses to the traders and drawing away customers.
In a conversion with Gertrude Kimbugwe an avocado trader for five years in Nakasero market, she expressed her concern and appealed to the farmers to desist from habits affecting the business.
