Despite having not disclosed the exact time, the Minister for ICT Hon. Judith Nabakooba while speaking to Journalists in Kasese confirmed the construction which will be championed by Total oil company together with the Chinese CNOOC will be one of the biggest oil pipelines in the world.

A few days back, the president of Uganda Yoweri Museveni, and his Tanzanian counterpart, Suluhu Hassan, agreed to hasten the implementation of the EACOP project by signing the pipeline deal.

According to Hon. Judith Nabakooba, Total Oil company and China's CNOOC will inject close to 10 billion US dollars to kick-start the pipeline alone.

She adds that the construction of the Pipeline will significantly benefit the people of Uganda and Tanzania but more employment opportunities will be given to Ugandans.

Local infrastructural development is expected to be boosted in areas along the pipeline.

She however appealed to Ugandans to position themselves very well if they are to benefit from the project.

The pipeline will run from Uganda’s oilfields around Lake Albert to the port of Tanga in Tanzania’s northeast region.

Totalis the major shareholder in Uganda’s oil fields after agreeing to buy Tullow Oil’s stake in onshore fields. It will work alongside Chinese state-owned CNOOC to develop the Oil reserves that are estimated to have 6bn barrels.
