Farmers said this during monitoring wealth creation programs that lead by Maj. Gen Elly Kayanza, fisheries officers, district agriculture officers and among others.
In the monitoring they visited fishponds and cattle farmers, which in sub counties of Nyakatonzo, Kisinga, Kasese municipality and other districts in the Rwenzori region.
According to Amon Masereka the fish farmer, narrates that fish theft is on high rate because the majority of the farmers are not able to maintain security on their fish farms or ponds.
Reacting to the farmers Col Barnabas Mughongo the district wealth creation coordinator said that theft increasing because of police having failed to help the farmers.
He called upon the farmers to work closely with the lc1’s it will help them to fight the rampant theft in their areas.
The regional coordinator, Rwenzori region, Col Philip Mugarura said with this program of closing lakes has led many people in Rwenzori region to create fish ponds, adding that it’s high time police to protect the fish farmers.
Gen. Elly Kayanza the wealth creation director said the purpose of their visit in Rwenzori region to witness the programs of wealth creation in the region because they have supplied in things to the farmers.
On the rampant theft in the region, Kayanza said government took the responsibilities of open up police post in every sub county, adding that he will find out whether every sub county in Rwenzori region has police post.
