Residents of Pakwach district are grappling with an acute water crisis that has hit the district for the past two days.

The most affected area is Pakwach town council. Residents have been forced to fetch water from River Nile which is unhealthy for domestic consumption.

Other areas also affected by the water scarcity include; Panyango, Pakwach Sub County and Paroketo.

Jerry Bithum, another resident in Paroketo, Pakwach district says he fears an outbreak of water-borne diseases which may arise as a result of using water from condemned water sources.

Viola Akumu, a food vendor at Pakwach market says she has had to close the business because she cannot rely on water from River Nile due to its poor quality.

Andrew Ahumuza, the Pakwach National Water and Sewerage Corporation NWSC engineer attribute the problem on the breakdown of the treatment plant. He, however, says that the plant is under repairs.
