5-Year-Old Pupil Dies in A School Septic Tank

Police in Kasese is investigating circumstances under which a 5-year-old pupil at Margerita Demonstration nursery and Primary School fell and died in a school septic tank.

The pupil who has been identified as Muhindo Katrin Gift a daughter to a one Kyakimwa Rose of Kisanga A ward Kizungu village in Nyamwamba division was in the middle class.

According to the councillor representing Kisanga ward Hon. Lusenge Thembo, the pupil fell into a septic tank which was in the school premises when she followed a cleaner who went to hang clothes.

Lusenge Thembo urged teachers to take good care of the pupils and regularly check the missing ones to avoid smillar incident.

Speaking to the deputy RPC Rwenzori East Fred Wakadubi, he confirmed that they were called from margherita demonstration nursery and primary school after the school had realized a missing child and police had to intervene and later the child was found in a septic tank and immediately was retrieved dead and taken to Municipal council health centre.

 Fred added that as investigations are still going on if they find that the school is guilty, an arrest will take effect immediately.

He, therefore, appeals to all institutions with holes of the kind to make sure they are covered or fenced to avoid occurrences of the same kind.

The LC.III chairperson of Nyamwamba division Mr Saidi Kisuki also cautions all proprietors of institutions to move to the standards as it has been preliminarily established that the manhole through which the juvenile fell was open.
