Atacama's Exit from Uganda's Oil Raises Concern

Buhaguzi Member of Parliament Daniel Muheirwe Mpamizo has tasked government to explain to Ugandans the fate of oil exploration in the country following the exit of Atacama Consulting Company from Buliisa.

According to Muheirwe, Atacama consulting company was contracted by total to help in the acquisition of land and recruiting employees among other things but people in Bullisa were yesterday (October 1, 2019) shocked to see the company exiting without compensating landowners and paying their workers.

He told Parliament that the continued exit of oil exploration companies from the Albertine region ought to be a public concern since the country harbours many expectations from the oil resource.

The timelines for oil exploration have been shifting over time, from 2009 to 2012, 2016, 2019 and now 2022.
